Philadelphia has six Sanitation Convenience Centers throughout the city to support efforts against littering and illegal dumping.
The Philadelphia Streets Department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Port Richmond Friday to debut the city's sixth Sanitation Convenience Center, one of a series of facilities designed to provide residents an accessible place to discard various types of waste.
The facilities, open only to Philadelphia residents with proof of address, accept items including collectible trash, recyclable materials, e-waste, yard waste, bulk items, tires, mattresses, and box springs. With the completion of the Sanitation Convenience Center in Port Richmond, the city is now well-covered geographically in its fight against litter and illegal dumping.
Other locations include West Philadelphia, Strawberry Mansion, Southwest Philadelphia, Northwest Philadelphia, and Northeast Philadelphia. Addresses can be found at the Streets Department website.
Residents who wish to use the facilities can bring their haul in a personal vehicle, a pick-up truck, or a rental pick-up truck with a gross vehicle weight under 6,000 pounds. Commercial contractors and vehicles are not permitted into the facilities.
Sanitation Convenience Centers are open Monday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., with the exception of city holidays.
