Police said the incident occurred in the 3300 block of Columbus Boulevard, though a spokesperson for the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority told Philly.com the container fell at a lot adjacent to the Packer Marine Terminal, known as the Publicker site.
A preliminary explanation for the fallen container is that it may have been knocked off by a top pick, the machine used to move cargo containers.
The victim was not immediately identified and an investigation continues.
