South Street is closing to vehicle traffic from river-to-river Sept. 24 for an open streets even aimed at cyclists and walkers.

In honor of National Bike Month and Bike to Work Week, Old City's Hotel Monaco will host a pop-up event for cyclists and casual bike riders on Thursday, May 19.

From May 16 through May 20, Philly will host multiple events for Bike to Work Week, with Bike to Work Day happening on the final date.

At Hotel Monaco's event, skilled mechanics from bike shop Keswick Cycle will be outside the hotel offering complimentary bike checkups. The pop-up shop will only be available for one day, at three different times. Head to the hotel from 7-9 a.m., noon to 2 p.m. or 5-7 p.m.

The Keswick mechanics will adjust front and rear derailleurs and brakes, provide wheel and tire inspection and make express tuneups on the spot. Philadelphia-based brand Advanced Sports will also hold an on-site raffle for a new Fuji bicycle.

While waiting on your bike, check out Red Owl Tavern next door for samples of light bites.
