Presidential candidates getting desperate in attempts to reach young voters

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is selling posters featuring him shirtless for a mere $55.

The 2016 presidential candidates will do quite a lot to gain the attention of voters. For instance, take just about anything that has rolled out of Donald Trump's mouth.

In some cases, the candidates have seemed a bit desperate, particularly in their attempts to reach young voters — a group that doesn't exactly vote in force, anyway. For that, TheWeek.com compiled a list of the 11 most humiliating ways the candidates have tried to impress young voters.

Among one writer's favorites:

• Hillary Clinton tried to spark a Twitter conversation about college debt by asking followers to Tweet their feelings in three emojis or less. The Twitterverse quickly informed the Democrat that millennials are capable of using their words, too.

• Rand Paul created a photo editing app that enabled his supporters to take a selfie with him. That went exactly how one might expect — a flurry of unflattering photos featuring the Republican senator's face.

• Ted Cruz posed shirtless, showcasing a series of obviously fake tattoos. Vladimir Putin he is not.
