For the fifth year in a row, Opera Philadelphia will be kicking off its new season with a free treat for all ages. Opera on the Mall, the group's annual broadcast at Independence Mall, returns Saturday, Oct. 3  Friday, Oct. 16.

This year, they'll be showing a performance of Verdi's classic gut-wrenching romance "La traviata" in high definition on an outdoor screen. Guests are encouraged to bring along a picnic and blankets or chairs to lounge on for the performance. Last year, around 6,000 guests turned up to enjoy the event.

Registration for the event opens up Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. online. Everyone who registers will be entered to win a subscription for two for Opera Philadelphia's 2015-2016 season.
