Where to recycle your Christmas tree

Say happy trails to your tree and help the environment

For some folks, the new year means out with the old, including their beloved Christmas tree.

But before hauling your tree to the curbside to be picked up on trash day, consider recycling it instead. Tree-cycling, offered by the Philadelphia Streets Department as well as several local civic associations, is a better option for the environment, and it can come in handy when repurposed as mulch and wood chips for local parks.

The Streets Department offers a list its Christmas tree recycling drop off sites as well as community groups tree recycling events here.

As the website notes, undecorated trees can be dropped off from 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday between Jan. 2 through Jan. 14, 2017 at six locations throughout the city, with additional drop off locations offered on Saturday, Jan. 7 and Saturday, Jan. 14.
