The van that was captured on surveillance video was a federal corrections vehicle completing a prisoner transport, Cherry Hill police said.

UPDATE: A South Jersey woman has been charged on a complaint summons for falsely reporting to police that a cop impersonator pulled her over and attempted to grab her neck last Monday.

Cherry Hill police said Monday that Samantha Roman of Haddonfield, Camden County recanted her complaint and admitted that the alleged incident never took place.

The woman alleged at the time that a man impersonating a police officer was driving a white Ford van that was later captured nearby on surveillance video.

However, the van was a federal corrections vehicle that was completing a prisoner transport at the time of the alleged incident.

The on-duty officers who were driving the van at the time had no contact with or knowledge of the woman or her vehicle, police said.

Roman is scheduled for an appearance in Superior Court.

The Cherry Hill Police Department is asking for the public's help in finding and identifying a man who allegedly impersonated a cop.

The incident took place around 1 p.m. Monday, investigators said, when a woman reported being pulled over by who she believed to be a cop along Route 38 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

The woman described the man's vehicle as a white Ford van with red and blue LED warning lights on the front and back of the car.

Wearing a blue T-shirt with "police" written across the front, the male approached the driver's side of the woman's vehicle and allegedly reached in and attempted to grab her neck, police said. The woman was able to flee the scene by driving away.

Video surveillance captured the white Ford van not far from where the alleged incident took place, police said. The vehicle has markings on the rear panel and an unknown license plate.

The suspect is described as being in his 30s with dark red or brown hair and a mid-length beard, police said.

The alleged incident in Cherry Hill comes just days after New Jersey State Police said that a man impersonating a cop pulled over two female drivers. One incident took place in Brick Township, Ocean County, and the other was in Wall Township, Monmouth County.

During the alleged incident in Brick, the suspect attempted to remove the woman from her car after she refused to get out on her own. The suspect's car was described by both women as a black, older model Ford Crown Victoria with a blue dome light on the front windshield.

Cherry Hill police could not confirm whether or not both cases were connected, the Courier Post reported.
