A Darby elementary school in Delaware County buzzed a man carrying a loaded handgun in to the school and was later arrested last week.

The man, allegedly a former student of Park Lane Elementary School, was recognized by school employees walking around the building with no shirt on and buzzed him in to the building Friday morning, CBS reported.

Darby Borough Police said 21-year-old Nazher Sabree, of Philadelphia, was carrying a loaded semiautomatic handgun and narcotics when he entered the building.

Police said Sabree told school officials he was looking for a lost bag in the school, the Associated Press reported. The principal later escorted Sabree out of the building.

In a press conference this week, Darby Borough Police Chief Robert Smythe criticized Park Lane's principal for first allowing the man into the building, failing to call police before he entered, and for failing to press the school safety button which is used in the event that a suspicious person is allowed in to a school.

"I personally hold that principal accountable for what happened today," Smythe said.

Park Lane officials have yet to make a statement on the incident.

The man was later seen knocking on doors in the neighborhood near the elementary school. After a violent struggle by police, involving a chase with drawn weapons, Sabree was arrested. No shots were fired.
