Register for the Rock 'n' Roll Philly Half Marathon

Bands perform at every mile

The Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon is back, with a race date set for Sept. 18. Registration is currently open for the early fall race. What makes the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon unique to the many other Philly races is that the course features live music.

Bands are positioned at each mile and play everything from rock, to blues, to jazz, to pop. The lineup was eccentric last year, and 2016 runners should expect the same. While the 2016 course is not yet finalized, the race will start and end at Eakins Oval.

Prior to the race, there will be a two-day health and fitness expo where all participants must pick up their race packets. Free and open to the public, the expo features the latest in running technologies, fitness apparel, health and nutrition information and interactive displays.

Through the end of May, registration fees are $99 per person. Afterward, fees will increase to $110. Participants will receive a T-shirt, gear bag, finisher's Liberty Bell-shaped medal and a beer, along with race and expo admission. The race benefits the American Association for Cancer Research.

For those who aren't up for 13.1 miles, there is a Rock 'n' Roll 5K scheduled for Sept. 17. Course details have not yet been released, but registration is currently open.
