Report: Prince treated for drug overdose six days before death

Pop superstar reportedly received 'save shot' after Atlanta concert

In the wake of pop superstar Prince's untimely death at 57 years old, a TMZ report has emerged that the multigenerational icon was admitted to an Illinois hospital to be treated for a drug overdose six days before he was found dead Thursday in an elevator at his suburban Minneapolis home.

Though it was reported earlier that Prince was hospitalized in Moline, Illinois last Friday after a make-up concert in Atlanta, the reason for the visit was not disclosed and a cause of death remains under investigation.

According to TMZ, Prince's private jet made an emergency landing in Moline several hours after his show in Atlanta. At the time, his representatives stated he was receiving treatment for a case of the flu, but TMZ cites multiple sources who say the musician was administered a "save shot" of what is typically administered to counteract an opiate overdose.

TMZ broke the story on the pop superstar's death earlier Thursday.

Prince had previously postponed a concert in Atlanta on April 7 and apologized to fans during his performance last week.

The report says several doctors advised Prince to remain in the hospital, but his representatives allegedly refused to keep him there unless he was provided with a private room. When that accommodation was not met, TMZ reports he was released three hours later and flew home.

Representatives for Prince neither confirmed nor immediately denied the report.
