An intense line of thunderstorms moved through the Philadelphia region on Monday afternoon, leaving thousands of people without power – and there might be other storms rolling through the region.

A severe thunderstorm watch by the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center for the area expired at 8 p.m.

The thunderstorms left thousands without power, hitting eastern Delaware County particularly hard. PECO reported 154 power outages affecting 22,185 customers, as of 5:15 p.m. Those figures included more than 40 outages affecting some 10,000-plus customers in the Haverford and Upper Darby portions of Delco. In New Jersey, Atlantic City Electric reported power outages in Pennsville, Pine Hill and Tabernacle. More than 320 homes lacked power, according to an online map, as of 5:20 p.m. Service was expected to be restored by 9 p.m.

According to social media reports, Allentown was also particularly hard-hit.

Power outages hit more than 11,000 homes and businesses when high winds toppled trees and power lines in the Lehigh Valley, the Allentown Morning Call reported.

More storms could be on the way, forecasters said.

Damaging gusts will be the main threat as storms extend from the upper Ohio Valley across New England, forecasters said. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible.

Strong winds and instability in the atmosphere will lead to several clusters of strong to severe storms, the Storm Prediction Center said. It is likely that the strongest storms across the region will pose a risk of locally damaging wind gusts and hail.
