Phillies extend broadcast deal with SportsRadio 94WIP

SportsRadio 94WIP will remain the flagship station of the Philadelphia Phillies after the sides agreed on a multiyear extension of their brodcasting partnership. All games will be broadcast on the radio station and streamed on the Audacy app. Scott Franzke, Larry Andersen and Kevin Stocker will be kept as the broadcast team.

Drug overdose deaths decline in Philly for first time in 5 years

Fatal drug overdoses in Philadelphia fell to 1,122 in 2023 — the first decline in five years, according to preliminary figures released by the Department of Public Health. That marked a 7% drop from 2022. Yet, racial inequities remain and homelessness is rising in Kensington, the epicenter of the city's overdose crisis.

Stevie Nicks to sing on next Christmas album by Jason Kelce and Eagles players

Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks will be featured on the upcoming Christmas album from the Philly Specials, the project led by Jason Kelce and his former Eagles teammates Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata. Kelce, who's now retired, shared a photo of himself with Nicks at a recording studio. 'A Philly Special Christmas Party' is due out Nov. 29.

Plan for overnight food truck market in Fishtown postponed indefinitely

An overnight market for food trucks in Fishtown will not debut this month as originally planned, city officials and organizers said. The space was supposed to open Thursday, Oct. 3, in a lot outside the Fillmore Philadelphia, but the concept has now been postponed indefinitely. The marketplace was developed by Fishtown District and the Department of Commerce as a test run for others planned in the city in the future.

Chaddsford Winery sold to New Jersey winemaker as owners exit industry

Chaddsford Winery in the Brandywine Valley has been sold to the owners of White Horse Winery in Hammonton, New Jersey. The Chester County winery was founded in 1982 and has grown into one of Pennsylvania's top winemakers, producing about 24,000 cases per year and hosting seasonal events on its five-acre estate. The two companies will continue to operate as separate entities.

Wawa earns No. 1 spot in customer ranking of U.S. convenience store chains, beating rival Sheetz

Wawa was rated the top convenience store chain in the United States in a survey conducted by the American Customer Satisfaction Index, an agency that looks at economic indicators for various U.S. industries. The Delaware County-based chain, which has a cult following in the Philly region, topped scores from rival Sheetz and other companies like QuikTrip, Buc-ee's and 7-Eleven.

Residential tower could be scrapped from 76ers arena proposal in favor of Market Street housing projects

The 76ers arena proposal includes a residential tower that may get scrapped due to opposition from community members. City Councilmember Mark Squilla said his constituents are opposed to the tower and that housing developments could instead be planned along other areas of Market Street.

SEPTA to install taller fare gates at 9 more subway stations next year

SEPTA will expand the use of newer fare gates at another nine subway stations on the Broad Street and Market-Frankford lines starting next spring. The nearly 8-foot-tall gates were installed first at 69th Street Transportation Center in the spring, resulting in a reduction in fare evasion and boosted revenue, SEPTA officials said.

Federal Donuts opened a new store in Radnor as part of its expansion outside Philadelphia, where it has 10 stores. The chain plans to open stores in Willow Grove and Conshohocken in the near future and is exploring options in South Jersey. The company is in the early stages of a national expansion supported by a growth equity investment from Radnor-based NewSpring Franchise.

Artist paints Phillies mural at Garage bar in Fishtown ahead of playoff run

As the Phillies get ready for another playoff run, the wall of Fishtown bar Garage has a new mural featuring the team's 'Daycare' trio of Brandon Marsh, Bryson Stott and Alec Bohm. The mural was painted this week by artist Glossblack, who previously painted the same wall with an image for former Sixers player Matisse Thybulle in 2021.
