How to keep your luscious locks looking beautiful during the summer while fighting the elements

Let's face it, if we have to suffer in the heat for that outdoor wedding or summer barbecue we want to look cute doing it. Here are five ways to keep your locks looking great throughout the summer season.

1. Coming right off the beach and going to a nighttime summer bash?

Braid your hair in a loose french or side braid while you swim & lounge. Let the braid dry as much as possible before taking it out. Salt water + braid = the perfect beachy look. For a little added control and texture, pack a sea salt spray in your bag. Scrunch into your hair after removing the braid!

(Don’t know how to braid? No problem! Just use a sea salt spray or wave activating product on your wet hair. Scrunch in and air dry.

Recommendations: Wella Ocean SpritzSugar Lift or Moroccanoil Beach Wave Mousse

2. Want that beachy look without hopping into the ocean?

Wrap large sections of your hair around a curling iron or wand (select the size depending on your hair length — the larger the barrel the looser the wave), leaving about 1.5-2inches out on the ends straight. Repeat this around the whole head alternating the direction of each curl for a messier undone appearance. Finish with a texturizing product for that just off the beach look.

Recommendations:

If you like the gritty, salty feel : Wella Ocean Spritz or Sugar lift

If you don’t like the salty feel but want the texture: Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray

3. Feel like your blowout isn't surviving that hot commute?

Try tying your hair up in a loose top knot on your way to work. Simply flip your head over and gather your hair into a ponytail. Twist your ponytail up from roots to end and wrap into a bun. To secure use bobby pins. A tight hair tie or clip will dent that beautiful blow-dry. Have a travel size dry shampoo on hand to use when you arrive at work to restore some of that volume you may have sweat out and give your hair a fresh scent.

Recommendation: Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo

4. Worried about the sun and chlorine ruining your color?

It's true, hair needs sunscreen too! Use a product with UV protection before the beach or pool. Argan oil has a significant amount of UV protection, and luckily every product in the Moroccanoil line is infused with it. Before you head out try spritzing Moroccanoils' Glimmer Shine over your hair. Not only will it create incredible shine but will protect your hair from the sun, salt, and chlorine.

5. Need a quick and cool summer style for those outdoor events?

Lucky for us, braids are in, and the more disheveled they look the better! Create a part wherever you prefer and pull all your hair to one side. Create a regular three-strand braid or if you can, a fishtail. Secure the end with an elastic, and hold the bottom of the braid firmly In place. Starting on one side from the bottom and working your way up, pull each section of the braid out slowly. After you finish one side complete the same step on the other side. You can make it as loose as you want.

Go from the beach to the bar in no time by creating a side bun with your braided hair for a more formal look.

For added texture and messiness: Curl before braiding, spray braid with a texture spray and rub with fingers, pull small pieces out around the hairline to frame the face.

For a neater braid: Braid your hair when it's wet.

To make it more formal: After pulling the braid out, use bobby pins to secure it up into a beautiful side bun.
