A Philadelphia police officer was hospitalized and a suspect fatally wounded after the two exchanged gunfire Wednesday morning in Northeast Philadelphia.
The incident occurred after 6 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 800 block of Riverside Drive.
Police said the officer was trying to serve a warrant on a suspect wanted in the killing of a pregnant woman last September. The suspect fired at the officer, striking him in the lower part of his bulletproof vest.
Police said the officer returned fire. The suspect, identified by 6ABC as 26-year-old Devon Guisherd, was pronounced at 6:42 a.m. at the hospital.
The officer was taken to Aria Torresdale Hospital in stable condition and has since been released.
Guisherd was wanted in the killing of 25-year-old Megan Doto, who was pregnant at the time of her death. She was shot and killed by a stray bullet.
Officials said the officer is a 17-year veteran assigned to SWAT. He is married with two children.
