Suspected drunk driver arrested after deadly crash in Northeast Philadelphia

Man dies, woman in critical condition after car hits median, overturns

Philadelphia police have arrested a suspected drunk driver who rear-ended another vehicle in Northeast Philadelphia Sunday morning, killing one man and seriously injuring a female passenger.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. as both vehicles were traveling east on Woodhaven Road near Thornton, according to NBC 10. The suspect's car struck the second vehicle, causing it to ram into the median and flip.

A 53-year-old male victim in the rear-ended car was transported to Aria Health's hospital in Torresdale, where he was pronounced dead. The female passenger in the vehicle, also 53, was taken to the same hospital in critical condition.

The 26-year-old suspect, who has not been identified, did not suffer any injuries and was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI. He has yet to be officially charged.
