Walmart plans sale to compete with Amazon Prime Day

As Amazon prepares for its big Prime Day sale on Wednesday, another retailer is looking to launch a rival sale, USA Today reports.

Walmart will launch a sale Wednesday with more than 2,000 online exclusive "rollbacks," or discounts.

The lower prices on items in categories including electronics, home, baby and toys will last 90 days, the typical time period for rollbacks, which Walmart usually has hundreds of at any given time throughout the year. Starting Monday, Walmart is also reducing the minimum order for free shipping from $50 to $35 for at least 30 days.

In a blog post on Monday, Walmart called out Amazon for making its Prime Day specials available only to Prime members.

"We’ve heard some retailers are charging $100 to get access to a sale," the company said in the post. "But the idea of asking customers to pay extra in order to save money just doesn’t add up for us.We’re standing up for our customers and everyone else who sees no rhyme or reason for paying a premium to save."
