Eagles backup lineman David Molk has retired.

The Philadelphia Eagles are down a player today, after they announced that 27-year-old center David Molk is retiring from football. Molk played in eight games for the Eagles from 2014 to 2015, starting four.

In 2015, Molk tore his biceps in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, and was placed on injured reserve, ending his season. He was the backup center to Jason Kelce, and also filled in at times at guard, in emergency situations.

With or without Molk, the Eagles were highly likely to target interior offensive line help, preferably someone who could double as a center. Molk's retirement will have little, if not no effect on the Eagles' offseason plans.

In January, a book was released called "NFL Confidential," written by the anonymous author "Johnny Anonymous." The book is marketed as a personal narrative of a player who hates the NFL. There is overwhelming evidence that the book was written by Molk. If indeed it was, he did a hilariously bad job masking his identity.

In other backup offensive lineman news today, the Eagles tendered a one-year contract to restricted free agent Matt Tobin.
