East Passyunk Fall Fest returns on Halloween with more than 80 craft vendors, trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving, costume contests, live music, food and drinks.
East Passyunk Fall Fest will bring more than 110 makers, vendors, neighborhood businesses and community groups to South Philadelphia on Saturday, Oct. 31. The free Halloween festival runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. along East Passyunk Avenue between Morris and Dickinson streets, with additional activities nearby.
Organized by Nice Things Handmade and the East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District, the event will close that stretch of the Avenue to traffic for shopping, trick-or-treating, food, drinks and Halloween activities.
Families can join the Creepy Crawl starting at 11 a.m., looking for spiders in participating businesses’ windows to find candy stops. Among them is Stitch & Story Consignment at 1821 E. Passyunk Ave., where owner Michelle Carrozza will hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. The shop carries everyday clothing, vintage pieces and designer items. Trick-or-treating is free and continues while supplies last.
At the Singing Fountain, Drunken Knitwits and South Philly Yarn will create a Halloween-themed yarn display and offer a craft table where people can make something to take home from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dogs can get in on the costumes, too. Registration for the dog costume contest opens at 11 a.m. at the fountain, and the contest starts at noon. Categories include best overall, best foodie costume, best pop culture icon and best dog-and-human duo. Free pup cups will be available to registered dogs while supplies last, and Street Tails Animal Rescue will bring adoptable dogs.
An outdoor screening of “Hocus Pocus” is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Tasker and 11th streets.
Free pumpkin carving will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gateway at Broad Street and East Passyunk Avenue, while supplies last. Pumpkins and tools will be provided. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Four artists will paint near the fountain from noon to 4 p.m. Batala’s roughly two dozen drummers are scheduled to perform at 1:15 p.m. at the fountain and along the Avenue. Live music at the fountain is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m., and DJ Linz X Mars will play in the PPA parking lot throughout the festival.
Neighborhood businesses will also offer food, drinks and activities. Options include a fall menu at Kouklet & Tanda Brazilian Bakehouse, hot cider at Superette and free live portraits by New Yorker cartoonist Natalie Horberg at Little Yenta Books.
Fall Fest is open to all ages and takes place rain or shine. Admission and trick-or-treating are free; food, drinks, shopping and some activities cost extra.
