Anthony Michael Noble, 27, of Phoenixville, has been arrested and charged with murder after police said he injected his girlfriend with cocaine in a failed suicide pact.

A Phoenixville man has been arrested and charged with murder after police said he injected his girlfriend with "multiple needles" full of cocaine and watched her die.

On Friday, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele and Upper Providence Township Police Chief Mark Toomey announced the arrest of 27-year-old Anthony Michael Noble.

His girlfriend, Joette L. Mullen, was found unresponsive by a passerby in a car at Lock 60 along Tow Path Road in Schuylkill Canal Park in Upper Providence on Dec. 14.

Police said Mullen's body had fresh needle marks in her arm when she was found.

Noble has been charged with first-degree murder and related offenses.

According to court documents, the pair -- who were described as "drug buddies" by Mullen's mother in an interview with police -- had intended to die together after they traveled to Philadelphia to purchase cocaine.

Noble initially told police that Mullen had accidentally overdosed and he panicked, throwing needles in the nearby river, court documents state.

However, in a recorded conversation that was transcribed and is included in court documents, Noble allegedly told a witness that he "backed out" of a suicide pact after he injected Mullen with two "big shots" of cocaine and then watched her convulse for about 10 minutes and die.

Court documents note that in an interview with police on Dec. 21 that Noble said the two hoped to die together "Romeo and Juliet style."

"That was my No. 1 and that's the only f---ing way she'd ever be happy in her f---ing life ... She did it. F---ing not me. The only f---ing thing I did, the only f---ing thing, was steering her from burning," Noble allegedly told a witness in a recorded conversation, saying that he injected her so she wouldn't go to hell after she died.

Noble is currently in police custody. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 29.
