Philadelphia's SugarHouse Casino will officially cut the ribbon next Monday in Fishtown to mark the conclusion of a $164 million expansion completed over a nearly two-year period.
The project, a 150,000-square-foot expansion, more than doubled the Delaware Avenue casino's size to 260,000 square feet since ground was broken in July 2014. Among the development's highlights are an expanded gaming floor, a new covered parking garage, the brand-new "Poker Night in America" room and a multipurpose Event Center to go with a slew of new restaurants, from Geno's and Saxby's to Chicago-based Hugo's Frog Bar & Chop House.
SugarHouse General Manager Wendy Hamilton will be joined by Philadelphia City Council President Darrell Clarke, Councilman Mark Squilla, Congressman Bob Brady, state Sen. Larry Farnese and Rush Street Gaming executives Neil Bluhm and Greg Carlin.
The casino's dining expansion — including dozens of new table games, poker tables and hundreds of additional slot machines — was designed to entice customers with non-gaming amenities. A food and beverage area known as The Marketplace features a large seating area with tables and seating on the casino floor.
In January, SugarHouse installed a site-specific urban light mural on the new seven-story garage. It was designed by East Falls artist Lyn Godley to represent the intersection of urban design, art and technology.
“Lyn Godley has conceived a beautiful and engaging contribution to the visual landscape,” said Margot Berg, public art director of Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy. “We welcome SugarHouse Casino’s unique contribution of color, light and technology to our city’s renowned public art collection.”
Monday's event will be held at the casino from 11 a.m. to noon at 1001 N. Delaware Ave. A complete list of SugarHouse Casino's May events and promotions can be found here.
