Four-year-old "Amazing Abby," battling rare form of leukemia, 'marries' he favorite nurse at Albany cancer clinic

A four-year-old girl battling a rare form of leukemia will continue her treatment as a newlywed with a contented heart after 'marrying' her favorite nurse at Melodies Center for Childhood Cancers in Albany, New York, earlier this week.

"Amazing Abby," as her mother affectionately calls her, swooned for nurse Matt Hickling and, after deciding he must be hers, shyly popped the sacred question. Hickling, honored, accepted and committed to wearing his finest tuxedo t-shirt, according to The New York Daily News.

The ceremony came complete with a trail of rose petals, a cake and a toy car to cruise away in, courtesy of donations from local businesses.

In a post on the Amazing Abby Facebook page, Abby's mom expressed thanks and gratitude for the support.

I just want to thank all the people for sharing Abby and Matts story! I love that the awareness is out there and that her clinic and Matt are getting so much attention. They deserve the recognition! They make our visits so much easier and truly get to know their patients! It's truly amazing!

For his part, the groom talked about the experience on his own Facebook page.

I didn't hesitate to say yes, I got a HUGE hug and we sealed the deal with ring pops being placed on our fingers! We then took a stroll down the hall in our "Just Married" car (well I pushed) and headed back into the room for cake and photos. This is when Dr. Lauren Silverman helped our patient slam cake right in my face!...This day will hopefully be one our patient and her family can always look back on and smile when days are tough! I know I will!
