One of the six CHOP projects opening this year, The Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care will be a dramatic step forward for pediatric medicine as well as the Philadelphia skyline.

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has announced that it is set to open the doors of its new Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care on Monday.

The 12-story Buerger Center will be located on Civic Center Boulevard, just across from the main hospital.

“Many families, doctors and nurses participated in the planning of this building, and the generosity of thousands of donors, most-notably the transformational $50 million gift from the Buerger family, has made this center a reality,” Madeline Bell, CHOP’s president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

“We are confident that we have achieved our goal of providing an ideal patient experience by utilizing design features that anticipate and meet the needs of our patients and their families.”

The new center is designed to alleviate stress on families who visit for procedures and appointments.

A relaxing 14,000-square-foot roof garden will afford space for recreation as well as rehabilitation sessions, while a 2.6-acre landscaped outdoor plaza will offer a safe open area for play, entertainment and emotional recharging.

The CHOP Wait. Play. Learn. area aims to engage children and young adults in exploratory and educational play.
