Former Philly cop sentenced in scheme to rob drug dealer

Jeffrey Walker, 47, planted drugs in a vehicle beforing attempting to rob the home of the driver

A former Philadelphia police officer was sentenced on Wednesday to 42 months in prison for a scheme in which he planned to rob a drug dealer while on official duty.

Jeffrey Walker, 47, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty on in February 2014 to attempted robbery interfering with interstate commerce and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

The incident in question occurred on May 21, 2013. Walker had told a cooperating witness that he wanted help identifying a drug dealer so that he could stop a car for suspected drug violations or directly plant drugs in the car.

On that day, the cooperating witness informed Walker of a car parked outside of a bar on West Girard Avenue. Walker approached the vehicle, placed drugs inside of it and proceeded to follow the car when the driver left the bar.

Walker eventually pulled the car over and took the key to the driver's home. Both Walker and the cooperating witness entered the home of the driver. When they exited, Walker was arrested and had taken $15,000 from the house.

U.S. District Court Judge Eduardo Robreno ordered three years of supervised release, a $5,000 fine and a $200 special assessment in addition to the prison term. The case was investigated by the FBI and Philadelphia Police Department.
