Lance Loethen has made dozens of round-trip surfing trips to the Jersey Shore over the past two years - many of them on weekdays before he arrives at his Philly office for work, typically around mid-morning.

If you're still trying to decide which Jersey Shore beach to visit for the Fourth of July, you might as well choose the best.

According to the results of a 2016 online vote led by the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium to find the best beach in New Jersey, Ocean City is tops in the state.

Wildwood Crest, which like Ocean City is in Cape May County, came in second place.

To select the winners, more than 9,000 online voters (who could only vote once throughout the contest's duration from May 1 to June 15) weighed in with their picks.

The contest also included sub-sections for the best of four coastal counties, where again Ocean City took the lead for Cape May County, and Brigantine for Atlantic County.

Sandy Hook came in as the top spot for Monmouth County and Asbury Park took the lead for Ocean County.
