A Muhlenberg Township man was killed Saturday night in eastern Pennsylvania after his running car became trapped by snow from a plow clearing the roadway, officials announced Sunday.

According to authorities, 56-year-old David Perrotto was killed while digging out his car following the storm on Saturday, CBS 3 reports.

The Berks County coroner's office pronounced Perrotto dead about an hour after he was found in his car. The cause of death was deemed to be carbon monoxide poisoning.

It was not clear whether the plow truck operator was aware Perrotto was in the roadway.

Investigators said Perrotto may have been inside his car taking a break from shoveling when the plow block him in and covered the exhaust. He was discovered by another person who was digging out their car.
