Police investigate theft of $18K in ATM lockbox in Northeast Philadelphia

Employee working on ATM at Family Deli says lockbox, iPhone stolen from pickup truck

Philadelphia police are searching for a suspect in the theft of an ATM lockbox in Northeast Philadelphia that resulted in the loss of $18,000 in cash.

According to authorities, the incident occurred at around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon inside the Family Deli nearby Penn and Church streets, CBS 3 reports.

An employee who was completing maintenance on the store's ATM had placed the lockbox inside his work pickup truck. When he returned to the truck, he found the box containing the cash was missing, along with his iPhone, according to police.

An investigation into the theft remains ongoing.
