Kohler's Bakery, an Avalon fixture since 1949, to close after summer

Kohler's Bakery in Avalon, at 2709 Dune Drive, will close for good at the end of the coming summer after a 74-year run at the Jersey Shore. Owner Colleen Quinn-Maxwell said the business was unable to reach a new lease agreement for the space. The bakery known for its cinnamon buns, danishes, cookies, cakes and other pastries is expected to remain open through the summer months.

Kane Kalas, son of legendary Phillies broadcaster, releases album of familiar big band hits

Kane Kalas, the son of the late, legendary Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas, has released a new album, "High Hopes," that features classic baseball hits including "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." Kane Kalas will continue his tradition of singing the national anthem for the Phillies home opener at Citizens Bank Park on Friday afternoon.

Rumored black panther in South Jersey was just a large dog, police say

Hamilton Township police say rumors of a black panther spotted in the area of Mays Landing on Thursday are false. Officers investigated a single report from a person who claimed to see the big cat. Police found a large black dog that belonged to a local resident. Black panthers are color variants of jaguars and leopards. They aren't found in the wild in the United States. Bobcats are the only native wild cat species found in New Jersey.

Otherworld, an immersive visual effects exhibit, to open in Northeast Philly

Otherworld, a visual effects exhibit and playground, opens in May at a 40,000-square-foot facility at 2500 Grant Ave. in Northeast Philly. The interactive art and light display features more than 55 rooms with tubes, holograms and projectors. The self-guided tour takes visitors through a cinematic world activated by motion sensors that illuminate the work of more than 100 artists.

Philly man charged for alleged road rage attack on Pepsi delivery driver in Abington

Scott Thomas, 21, of Philadelphia, is charged with aggravated assault and related offenses from an alleged road rage assault on a Pepsi delivery driver near a Whole Foods grocery store in Abington Township, police said. Thomas allegedly pulled a gun on the delivery driver and struck him with it. During the ensuing struggle, the gun fired and struck the delivery driver in the hip.

97-unit apartment building planned at former Columbus Boulevard warehouse site

A seven-story, 97-unit apartment building has been proposed for a portion of the former Philadelphia Warehousing & Cold Storage complex at 500 N Christopher Columbus Blvd. The complex was was added to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places, meaning future development plans must be approved by the Philadelphia Historical Commission.

Penn Medicine and Virtua Health have opened their new proton therapy cancer treatment center in Voorhees, New Jersey. It's the first proton therapy center in South Jersey, one of fewer than 50 in the United States. The treatment is associated with fewer side effects and offers a less demanding protocol for patients.

Serial killer Ted Bundy's links to 1969 Garden State Parkway murders examined in new true crime series

Serial killer Ted Bundy's possible connections to the 1969 Garden State Parkway murders are explored in the new Oxygen True Crime series, "Violent Minds: Killers On Tape." The slayings of two young women outside Ocean City, New Jersey have been linked to Bundy based on interviews he gave to forensic psychologists, one of whom had Bundy on tape. The murders of Susan Davis and Elizabeth Perry, both 19, remain unsolved more than 50 years later. Bundy's known ties to the Philadelphia area and Jersey shore have spawned theories about the case, including investigative research done by Christian Barth, author of "The Garden State Parkway Murders: A Cold Case Mystery."

North Wildwood police issued a warning to pet owners this week after receiving multiple reports of a coyote seen in the Jersey Shore town. Coyote sightings have become increasingly common in parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania in recent years, prompting similar warnings from police departments.

SimplyProtein bars made by Wellness Natural USA Inc. have been recalled due to an undeclared cashew allergen in the Peanut Butter Chocolate Crispy Bars that came in 15-count variety packs. The packs were sold at Costco stores in Pennsylvania, Arkansas, California, Washington DC, Kansas, Maryland, Oklahoma, Texas and Virginia between Feb. 27 and March 31.
