Phillies round out radio broadcast team as MLB work stoppage shrouds 2022 season

The Philadelphia Phillies have filled out their 2022 radio broadcast team to include four former players who will join Scott Franzke for road games. Larry Andersen will continue home game duties while Michael Bourn, Chad Durbin, Erik Kratz and Kevin Stocker take turns on the road. The 2022 season remains in limbo amid a contentious labor dispute that has canceled early season games.

U.S. Customs officials in Philadelphia crack 'Seinfeld' joke after discovering drugs hidden in soup cans

An international shipment of liquid MDMA was seized in Philadelphia after Customs & Border Protection officials noticed a purple liquid leaking from large cans of soup that were sent from the Netherlands. An analysis of the liquid determined that the substances was the party drug ecstasy, also known as molly. In response to discovering the shipment, which was bound for Miami, CBP officials referenced the infamous Soup Nazi from "Seinfeld."

WXPN's Helen Leicht retires after nearly 50 years in Philadelphia radio

Long-time 88.5 WXPN midday host Helen Leicht has announced her retirement, ending a career in Philadelphia radio that spanned nearly 50 years. Leicht was known for the "Leicht Lunch" program, her decades-long "Breakfast with the Beatles" segment, the Free at Noon live concert broadcasts she hosted on Fridays, and her Musicians on Call partnership that brought local artists to hospitals to perform for patients and staff.

Philadelphia's mandatory COVID-19 mask requirement for indoor spaces has been lifted. In schools, the mask mandate will be lifted March 7. The health department may institute restrictions again in the future if the risk level rises again.

Former TV meteorologist mourned after death at Roundtop Mountain Resort

Former ABC27 meteorologist Derrick Ometz died Feb. 20 in a skiing accident at Roundtop Mountain Resort, a popular outdoor recreation destination in Warrington Township, Pennsylvania. Ometz, 45, of Mechanicsburg, suffered multiple traumatic injuries and his death was ruled accidental, the Cumberland County Coroner's Office said.

Bensalem man allegedly hid in New Hampshire woman's attic, secretly filmed her during burglary

A Bensalem man is facing burglary charges after he allegedly broke into the home of a New Hampshire woman, stole her underwear and secretly filmed her as she slept unclothed, according to prosecutors in Strafford County. Mauricio Damian Guerrero, 20, allegedly met the woman on the the OnlyFans app and drove to New Hampshire multiple times to meet her against her will, police said.

Human Robot Brewing nears grand opening of Jenkintown brewpub

Human Robot Brewing is opening a second location on Old York Road in Jenkintown in March. The Philadelphia brewer opened its first space in Kensington in 2020 and quickly became popular for its eclectic mix of experimental brews. Food at the Jenkintown brewpub will come from Herman's at the Haus, a German beer hall-inspired concept that will include American pub fare.

Woman found dead in Harleysville parking lot in suspected hit-and-run

Pennsylvania State Police in Montgomery County are investigating a suspected hit-and-run crash after a woman's body was found Monday morning in a Harleysville parking lot, authorities said. The body was found face down around 6:30 a.m. in a lot behind an apartment complex at 3920 Eastport Way.

Northern Liberties project will spell end for funky alien, eagle and rooster murals

An apartment building is planned in Northern Liberties at the corner of 2nd and Poplar streets, where street artists have graced the southwest corner with memorable murals over the last decade. The project from Catalyst City Development and Southwood Properties calls for a five-story building with 63 apartments and ground-floor retail.

Trailer for Adam Sandler's 'Hustle' is packed with Philly things; take our quiz to see how many you know

Netflix released the trailer for the upcoming feature film 'Hustle,' which stars Adam Sandler and was filmed at locations in the Philadelphia area including Center City, the Italian Market, Manayunk, Chester, Coatesville and Camden. Several Philly area locations are depicted in the trailer. The movie is set to premiere June 10 on the streaming giant.
