Philly skyline will go dark each night to protect migratory birds

The Philly Lights Out initiative will protect migrating birds along the Atlantic Flyway by shutting off and dimming lights on prominent city buildings at night. The first phase of the program will run from April 1 through May 31, when participating buildings turn off their lights from midnight to 6 a.m.

Shocking road rage assault on South Broad Street involving dirt bike rider caught on video

Philadelphia police are investigating a road rage assault that occurred on South Broad Street on March 9 and was captured in a disturbing video posted online. The attacker was seen pulling a gun during the incident. No arrests have been made at this time and victim reported minor injuries.

Philly expands COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to residents age 65 and up

Philadelphia residents ages 65 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in Phase 1B, health department officials announced Wednesday. The updated guidelines bring Philadelphia in line with criteria in the surrounding suburban counties.

Philadelphia Flyers fans have a chance to get their hands on a one-of-a-kind nude portrait of mascot Gritty by donating to Flyers Charities as park of a sweepstakes to auction the painting. Artist Benjamin Davis completed "Gritty Reclined" during a Feb. 3 home game at the Wells Fargo Center.

Pennsylvania bald eagle eggs expected to hatch soon on three livestreams

Three different bald eagle nests in Pennsylvania will soon see their eggs hatch as the young chicks get ready to break through their shells. The Hanover nest at Codorus State Park and the Farm Country nest, whose location is undisclosed, are both on track for eggs to hatch in the coming days, as well as the the Hays nest, located in Pittsburgh.

Remains found in Bensalem 33 years ago identified as missing Philly teen

Bensalem police and Bucks County prosecutors have identified the remains of a teenager who was found in a well at the former Publicker Distillery on State Road in 1988. Using DNA testing, authorities determined the victim was 17-year-old Philadelphia resident Lisa Todd, who was pregnant at the time of her death and had first been reported missing in 1985. Investigators hope Todd's identity will help bring new information to light in the cold case.

Philly bagel shop lands in Food & Wine's top 50 in United States

Philly Style Bagels, located in Fishtown, was included among Food & Wine's top 50 bagel shops in the United States in 2021. The store opened in 2016 and quickly earned recognition after Bon Appétit magazine included its Classic Lox Sandwich on its "The 5 Best New Sandwiches in America" list. The store is temporarily closed in early 2021, but is planning to make a comeback later this year.

Villanova student charged with attempted sexual assault

Villanova University student Iyanu Elijah Solomon, 19, has been removed from the suburban Philadelphia campus in the wake of attempted sexual assault charges filed by the Delaware County District Attorney's Office. The alleged incident occurred in Sept. 2019, but was followed by new allegations from two additional victims in March 2021.

New Jersey Amtrak employee allegedly stole, sold $50,000 in chainsaws, parts

Jose Rodriguez, 48, of Brick Township, New Jersey, was charged in the alleged theft of more than $50,000 worth of chainsaws and parts from Amtrak, where he was a long time employee at the New Brunswick faclity. Rodriguez allegedly sold most of the parts using an online auction service.

Former Phillies pitcher Rhéal Cormier dies at 53

Former Philadelphia Phillies reliever Rhéal Cormier, affectionately known as Frenchie, died Monday at the age of 53 after a lengthy cancer battle, according to the team.
