Eagles' Week 1 opponent suffers major injury loss

The Commanders will be without injured star LT Laremy Tunsil for their season opener against the Eagles, and possibly for the Week 8 rematch.

On Saturday, Washington Commanders starting LT Laremy Tunsil tore his triceps and will be out for a chunk of the regular season. Tunsil is arguably the best player on Commanders' roster. His injury will likely require surgery, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

The Eagles play the Commanders Week 1 and Week 8. Tunsil will almost certainly miss that Week 1 matchup, and possibly also Week 8.

The Commanders don't have much in the way of ideal options to fill in for Tunsil at LT.

• Brandon Coleman, who is in a camp battle with Chris Paul for the starting LG spot, started 12 games for the Commanders at LT in 2024. He also started three games at LT when Tunsil got hurt last season.

• Andrew Wylie is a projected backup who has started 93 regular season games and 14 playoff games, but has mainly played at RT, with some work at RG as well.

Either option is a massive downgrade. This is a major season-altering injury for a Commanders team hoping to rebound from a disappointing 5-12 season in 2025. As noted in our Commanders dumpster fire article this offseason, Washington has a fragile quarterback in Jayden Daniels, questionable skill position players, a bad defense, and just two good players along their offensive line. With Tunsil out, they're down to one good offensive lineman.

Earlier this offseason we had Tunsil on our "All NFC East team." He was the only Commanders player to make it, on offense or defense. If one were to rank the players the Commanders could least afford to lose to injury, Tunsil would land at No. 2 behind Daniels.
