14-year-old boy charged in 15 robberies near Drexel University

Philadelphia DA Seth Williams did not say whether suspect would be charged as an adult

A fourteen-year-old boy is in the custody of Philadelphia police has been charged with committing 15 armed robberies near Drexel University during a 30-day period.

Detectives, working with minimal evidence, were at a loss over the past month as the incidents continued to occur, according to CBS 3.

According to police Captain John Darby, the boy was arrested Friday while riding a purple bicycle linked to several of the robberies. He resides on the 700 block of North 37th Street, nearby the the targeted community. During the most recent incident, a young woman was pistol whipped and punched when she refused to comply with the suspect's demands.

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams did not indicate whether the suspect, whose name has not been released, will be charged as an adult.

Despite the arrest, Captain Darby warned local residents to remain aware of their surroundings.
