Police in Ephrata, Lancaster County, credit a black cat for helping them locate and arrest Jonathan Michael Steffy.

Bad luck, but good cop?

Police in a Pennsylvania town are crediting a feline friend for helping them find a wanted man.

Authorities in Ephrata, Lancaster County, said they went to arrest Jonathan Michael Steffy, 23, on an outstanding bench warrant on the night of Nov. 28.

Steffy allegedly ran from police after they located him in a backyard, so officers set up a perimeter around the residence and began looking for him.

One officer noticed a black cat staring "intently" at a shed in the backyard. The officer checked the shed and found nothing.

Looking at the cat again, the officer saw the cat looking past him at another shed. It was there the officer found Steffy and arrested him.

The department wrote on its Facebook page: "The Ephrata PD is thankful for any crime fighting assistance we get, whether human or feline!"
