Man on bicycle shot in head, killed in Wynnefield

Philadelphia police are searching for a suspect who allegedly shot and killed a man who was riding a bicycle in Wynnefield late Tuesday night, CBSPhilly reports.

Police responded to the 5300 block of Berks St. just before midnight after receiving several 911 calls.

A man was found at the scene with a gunshot wound in the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, is believed to be in his late teens or early 20s.

Police believe the man, who was found straddling a bike, was either riding or sitting on his bicycle when he was shot.

"Ballistic evidence on the scene indicates that the shooter fired at least three shots from a semi-automatic weapon," Chief Inspector Scott Small told CBSPhilly. "We found three large-caliber spent shell casings all just several feet from where the victim collapsed, which is an indication that the shooter fired these three shots from point-blank range."

The shooting remains under investigation.
