The student was a ninth-grader at George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science in Philadelphia.
A North Philadelphia high school student died on Tuesday from bacterial meningitis, according to NBC10.
According to reports, the unidentified student was a ninth-grader at George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science located on the 1600 block of W. Norris St.
There is no word on when or where the student contracted the illness.
The school will hold a community meeting on the death and illness Wednesday.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bacterial meningitis typically isn't fatal. Symptoms include fever, headache, a stiff neck, nausea and vomiting.
The case is the first reported meningitis death in Philadelphia this year.
