Philly's first cat cafe finds a home in Queen Village

Cafes Cats

Philadelphia's first cat cafe, Kawaii Kitty Cafe, has found a home in Queen Village.

Owner Kristin Eissler told Philadelphia Business Journal that the cafe will be located on the 700 block of S. 4th St. by Red Hook Coffee & Tea.

The 1,200-square-foot space will consist of a cafe side, which is a no-cat zone, and a cat lounge, where guests can bring their food and hang out, separated by a glass wall. Guests will be charged a $5 entrance fee for the cat area, which will help fund food, medical care and maintenance for the cats.

Cat cafes are very popular in Asia and have slowly been popping up in the United States. The shops serve regular cafe fare and give guests the opportunity to mix and mingle with adoptable cats in hopes that the kitties will find new homes.

Eissler said the cafe will hopefully open in January, as long as various permits and approvals are acquired.

Philadelphia's second cat-and-coffee hybrid, Le Cat Cafe, was announced in August.
