Police name suspect in theft at Northeast Philly church

Police are seeking Sarah Higgins, 29, of Bristol, for her suspected involvement in the theft of funds raised during a book sale at a Northeast Philadelphia church.


Philadelphia police have identified a suspect in a theft from a book sale at St. Martha Church in the city's Modena Park neighborhood on Feb. 2. 

An arrest warrant was issued Feb. 12 for Sarah Higgins, 29, of the 200 block of Lafayette Street in Bristol, police said. Law enforcement officials believe she matches the description of the woman seen on church surveillance video

Higgins is known to frequent the area of Bristol Township, Bucks County, Northeast Philadelphia, and Bryn Mawr on the Main Line, according to police.

The incident at St. Martha Church, located at 11320 Academy Road in Northeast Philadelphia, occurred about 7:50 p.m. on Feb. 2. Surveillance cameras showed a woman taking an undetermined amount of school book sale proceeds, then fleeing the building, police said. 

Police said they want to question Higgins about the incident.
