Man, 23, fatally shot in the head in Northeast Philly, police say

A 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the head on the 1400 block of Overington Street in Frankford shortly before midnight Monday, Philadelphia police say. No arrests have been made and police are looking at surveillance footage in hopes of identifying the shooter.

Double mastectomies do not increase the overall breast cancer survival likelihood, according to a study led by the Women's College Hospital Research and Innovation Institute in Canada. Death rates were the similar for people with cancer in one breast who received a lumpectomy, single mastectomy and double mastectomy.

The Sedgwick Theater in Mt. Airy will get an $8 million facelift under its new owners, the Quintessence Theatre Group. The longtime tenants purchased the property for $2.3 million and plan to restore the original marquee and add seats. The theater opened in 1928 as a movie palace.

Two pedestrians were killed, including a 22-month-old girl, and three others were injured in traffic crashes in Philadelphia over the weekend, police said. The girl and her mother and sister were struck by a driver Saturday night in North Philly – not long after another man suffered a head injury after being struck in North Philly. Another man was killed in a hit-and-run on Sunday morning in Frankford.
