A 10-year-old girl at a playground in West Philadelphia was grazed by a bullet Wednesday afternoon when a gunman opened fire near the Philadelphia Zoo, injuring two others as they attempted to flee, police said.
The incident occurred after an argument reportedly took place at a corner store near 39th and Poplar streets, across the tracks from the zoo, NBC 10 reports.
The shooter, who has not been identified, fired more than 20 shots, according to Philadelphia Police Lieutenant John Walker.
The 10-year-old victim, struck in the arm by a stray bullet, was transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in stable condition.
A 36-year-old male victim was shot in the right ankle and listed in stable condition while a 20-year-old male victim was also in stable condition after suffering wounds to his left arm and right foot.
The Philadelphia Zoo said that it was unaware of the shooting, which did not take place on its grounds.
According to Lt. Walker, the shooter is believed to be known by people in the neighborhood. Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia Police.
