Body of Barnegat man washes up on Long Beach Island

Officials believe suicide likely cause of death

Authorities in Ocean County believe that suicide may be the cause of death in the discovery of a Barnegat man who washed up on a beach at Long Beach Island earlier this week.

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, the body of 59-year-old Barnegat resident John T. Creevy was found early Tuesday morning by a Beach Haven resident who was walking along the shore between 78th and 79th streets in the Brant Beach Section of Long Beach Township, NJ.com reports.

Police officers found the body without any signs of trauma, according to Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. The medical examiner concluded that the body had been in the water for at least eight hours before it was found and the incident has been given a preliminary suicide listing.

Creevy lived alone and was not reported missing. According to Della Fave, his car and personal belongings were found in Surf City.
