It’s nice when patience pays off. That was the case at a packed Tower Theatre Thursday night when a 90-minute delay only made Erykah Badu’s show all the more memorable.
Playing into early Friday morning, she stirred a crowd ravenous for her one-of-a-kind neo-soul. With a voice as powerful and resonant as any in music today, she delivered a stellar live performance before projections of abstract shapes, physics diagrams and the Earth as the nucleus of an atom.
Badu was powerful and sublime. As the night stretched on, the songs and beats loosened, but Badu never lost hold of one of her main theses: to recognize the similarities in all of us will unlock many positive possibilities.
The night began with the frenzied movements and far-reaching vocals of Gallant. Playing behind his debut Ology he was a jolt of R&B electricity to warm up the crowd.
