'Free the six-pack' takes effect in Pennsylvania on Tuesday

Another provision includes letting bars serve at 9 a.m. on Sundays

Starting on Tuesday, private distributors in Pennsylvania will be permitted to sell beer for off-site consumption in any quantity, including six-packs, single bottles and growlers, The Associated Press reports.

The new rules are part of a bill signed by Gov. Tom Wolf in November that will go into effect.

Other provisions of the bill include permitting bars to start selling alcohol at 9 a.m. on Sundays instead of at 11 a.m., allowing manufacturers to ship up to 192 ounces of beer to consumers each month as part of beer-of-the-month clubs and allowing mixed drinks and beer to be sold in shatterproof containers at professional and amateur sporting events before, during and after the event without area restrictions.

“Pennsylvanians have waited decades to bring their beer and liquor systems into the 21st century,” Wolf said in November of the bill, which he's touted as the "free-the-six-pack movement."
