Royal Caribbean cruise ship travelers experience extreme weather scare

Hurricane-force winds off U.S. coast rock ship, cause damage

A Royal Caribbean cruise ship was caught at sea in hurricane-force winds off the Carolina coast Sunday night, ABC News reports.

According to ABC News, the Anthem of the Seas ship was hit repeatedly by 30-foot waves, causing furniture to tumble, ceilings to cave in and forcing passengers to remain sheltered in the cabins.

About 4,000 passengers and crew members were on the ship headed to the Bahamas, ABC News reports.

The company said in a statement that no serious injuries have been reported.

According to ABC News, the ship left New Jersey Saturday for a seven-night cruise to the Bahamas but instead will dock in Cape Canaveral, Florida, due to the weather.

There is no word at this time on whether the trip will continue as planned.
