Eytan Shander: A 60 game baseball season is a waste of time, one big fat asterisk

It stands alone. The entire season is one big fat asterisk.

Eytan Shander: Change doesn't just happen on the front lines, and that's where sports comes in

This past week saw some faces speak out – thankfully – against police brutality and supporting the Black Lives Matter message. It was no coincidence two of the strongest trends on Twitter this past Sunday were Mitt Romney, and Bubba Wallace and NASCAR. I strongly urge you to NOT use any social media platform as any barometer for human behavior, so let’s examine the real-world ramifications.

Eytan Shander: 'We need to focus on how we speak'

We have to change everything and be ok with it. We have to change how we think, change how we act, change how we speak. We need to live the change we want to see acted out by “leadership” or “influencers” or some billion-dollar shoe company. You will hear plenty of people push for change in thought and action, rightfully so, but rarely focus on how we speak.

Eytan Shander: Are we headed for full stadiums this fall — and is that a good thing?

I can’t believe I’m actually thinking this out loud, but I’d be shocked at this point if NFL stadiums aren’t full of fans. It’s getting to the point where the NBA and NHL could have fans by the end of July. I’d bet you NFL preseason games will have fans in some capacity.

Eytan Shander: If Eagles can't get Andre Dillard right, how can we trust them on Jalen Hurts?

You simply cannot take a major risk in the draft, by taking Jalen Hurts where you did, and turn around and totally botch another risk you made two years earlier. By messing up the Dillard pick, the team has ruined credibility in asking us to trust them moving forward. Only when someone new is in the position to ask for our trust will that truly go away.

Eytan Shander: COVID-19 is changing sports, possibly for the better

Not everything needs to return to normal once everything starts to return to normal.

Eytan Shander: There's no way Michael Jordan didn't bet on basketball

When I was fifteen years old, I switched high schools and repeated 10th grade. One thing I’ll never forget about that summer was attending the UNC Basketball Camp, staying on campus in the historic Chapel Hill dorms. We played basketball in the mornings – bussed to different gyms around the area – and listened to former UNC players talk to us in the afternoons. We sat in the Smith Center, watching people like Phil Ford, Hubert Davis, and even Dean Smith himself speak to us. We learned what it takes to be a better basketball player and person.

Eytan Shander: Drafting Jalen Hurts puts more pressure, criticism on pretty much everyone

After selecting Jalen Hurts so high in the NFL Draft, you have to find a way to use him this season. Sitting on the bench ice cold this year simply won’t cut it. You, Doug Pederson and Andy Weidl took a young man with tons of promise at the QB position and are going to reduce him to Taysom Hill.

Eytan Shander: Eagles' draft success hinges on one thing — taking a wide receiver in the first round

Don’t blow it. Wise words of advice that will be thrown around our great city plenty ahead of Thursday night. The good news for Eagles GM Howie Roseman heading into the opening round of the NFL Draft? It’s going to be pretty difficult to screw up — that is, if you’re like me and want a wide receiver.

Opinion

Eytan Shander: No matter who the Eagles draft, fans will likely get angry for no good reason

Why do we do this? Each offseason we look at every single prospect who plays the position we want the Eagles to address in the first round of the NFL Draft. And all we're doing is building ourselves up for disappointment every single year.
