Ocean City's faulty boardwalk clock will get $31,000 replacement

Ocean City leaders voted Thursday night to replace the analog clock on the boardwalk at the Ninth Street entrance, between Manco & Manco Pizza and Shrivers Salt Water Taffy & Fudge. The replacement will cost the city $30,944. The existing clock is no longer consistently displaying the correct time and has appearance issues, city officials said.

Philly giving low-income parents $500 monthly through guaranteed income program

Philadelphia has begun a program giving $500 monthly to 50 low-income residents in the city as part of a study on guaranteed income for parents. Like similar programs in the U.S., the payments do not come with restrictions and do not interfere with existing benefits payments. A second group of 250 residents is receiving monthly $50 payments as part of a comparative, yearlong study on how the payments affect job prospects and spending habits among people enrolled in Pennsylvania's extended Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.

The Philadelphia 76ers will hold five public meetings on Zoom in August to discuss the team's proposal to build a new arena on East Market Street. The $1.3 billion proposal is located just south of Chinatown, where many community members have opposed the project. Two of the meetings will include Mandarin and Cantonese language translation.

Philly Pretzel Factory selling pretzel pizzas in Mayfair, will soon at all stores

Philly Pretzel Factory has debuted a new 12-inch pretzel pizza that's now being sold at the company's original location in Mayfair, at 7366 Frankford Ave. The pizzas are baked with pretzel flour and have a salted crust. They're available in-store or for delivery on DoorDash and other platforms. CEO Dan DiZio said the new pizza is the first of several new menu items the company plans to launch in the coming years as it looks to offer more lunch and dinner items.

76ers alter arena proposal to include residential tower, public promenade

The Philadelphia 76ers have added a residential tower with affordable housing units to the team's proposed new arena on East Market Street in Center City. The team released new renderings Wednesday and said the tower would have 20% of its 395 units designated for affordable housing along the southern border of Chinatown. The team also tweaked other aspects of the arena's design to create a public promenade between Market and Cuthbert streets.

Stone Harbor hires staffer to answer calls prompted by surge of parking tickets – at Avalon's request

The debut of the ParkMobile app in Stone Harbor this summer has led to a huge increase in parking ticket enforcement at the shore town, which replaced its old kiosks and meters. Neighboring Avalon, which shares a municipal court with Stone Harbor, requested that the borough hire a seasonal worker to handle the high call volumes related to the surge in parking violations at the Jersey Shore community.
