46-story apartment tower proposed atop CVS in Center City

Goodman Properties plans to construct a 46-story apartment building at 19th and Chestnut streets in Center City. The developer plans to preserve the facade of the property, currently occupied by a CVS pharmacy, which was originally the site of the Aldine Theatre.

Chester County police officer fatally struck bicyclist while chasing down erratic driver, prosecutors say

Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Officer Jason Listmeier, 24, was charged Thursday in connection with a fatal crash with a bicyclist on Feb. 20. Listmeier was responding to a report of an erratic driver on Route 202 when he lost control of his car and collided with 75-year-old Michael Ghione in the 900 block of South High Street.

N.J. state trooper under investigation for tattoo linked to white supremacist groups

New Jersey state trooper Jason Dare, 46, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into a neck tattoo that says 'Blood & Honor,' a phrase associated with skinhead and white supremacist groups. Dare recently was reported missing by state police after he left a medical facility in Delaware County. A photo released by police during the search for Dare showed his neck tattoo.

Hoverboard model that allegedly caught fire, killing two Pennsylvania girls, recalled by manufacturer

Jetson Electric Bikes, the maker of the hoverboard blamed for causing a fire that killed two sisters in Pennsylvania last year, has issued a recall for about 53,000 of its Rogue self-balancing scooters, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced.

Sea Isle City adopts curfew for teens, bans backpacks on beaches after 10 p.m. this summer

Sea Isle City passed two ordinances this week that include a 10 p.m. curfew for juveniles and a nighttime ban on backpacks for all people on the promenade, beaches and ends of beach blocks. The changes signal a growing trend among Jersey Shore towns striving to prevent crowds of unattended teens taking over public spaces.

PennDOT to permanently close I-95 North ramp in Northeast Philly

The I-95 northbound ramp at Exit 27 to Bridge Street/Harbison Avenue in Northeast Philly will be permanently shut down on or after April 18, PennDOT officials said. Northbound I-95 and westbound Betsy Ross Bridge traffic heading for Bridge Street, Tacony Street and Harbison Avenue will begin using the Exit 26 off-ramp to Aramingo Avenue.

Temple University President Jason Wingard will resign effective Friday, March 31, the university announced. Wingard was Temple's first Black president and served for less than two years as the university struggled with campus safety, falling enrollment, financial issues and labor disputes.

Philly's drinking water is safe and will not be impacted by chemical spill, officials say

Philadelphia's tap water will remain safe to drink and will not be affected by the chemical spill at a plant in Bucks County, officials said Tuesday night. Water Department officials concluded the risk of contamination has passed based on water sampling tests and river flow models. None of the contaminants association with the synthetic latex solution that entered the river ever appeared at detectable levels the city's water sample tests.

Federal bill aims to make xylazine, the animal sedative used in 'tranq dope,' a Schedule III controlled drug

Federal lawmakers have introduced a Senate bill that would make the veterinary tranquilizer xylazine a Schedule III controlled substance. The drug is increasingly used as a cutting agent for fentanyl, a combination called 'tranq dope.'
