Bridgeton man charged with murder in death of Jonathan Morris

New Jersey State Police have charged 21-year-old Miguel Perez in the fatal shooting of Jonathan Morris, the 23-year-old Bridgeton man who went missing late last week and whose body was found in Hopewell Township on Monday night. A GoFundMe campaign to support Morris' family had raised more than $10,000 by Tuesday afternoon. Perez is charged with murder and related offenses.

New Jersey plow driver who sprayed Orthodox Jews with snow during storm facing criminal probe

The snow plow driver in Lakewood, New Jersey, who cast a wave of snow and ice from his plow onto two Orthodox Jewish men walking along a roadway has been suspended from his job and could face criminal charges, pending the outcome of a police investigation. Video of the act, which appears to have been intentional, was posted on social media. A passenger recorded the video with his phone as the driver approached the two men walking along County Line Road near the Jackson Township border.

Mystery Pennsylvania canine breaks free from cage, escapes from rescue shelter

The mystery canine in Pennsylvania, maybe a dog, a coyote or both, escaped the animal rescue facility where he was receiving care as the staff awaited the results of DNA testing to determine his identity. The animal had caused a surge of online interest and speculation after Wildlife Works. shared photos of him earlier in January, when a woman found him in the cold and brought him in to receive veterinary attention.

Eagles creating girls flag football league in bid to get sport sanctioned by PIAA

The Philadelphia Eagles are establishing a high school girls flag football league and providing an equipment donation to the School District of Philadelphia in spring 2022. Fifteen high schools from the Philadelphia Public and Catholic Leagues will participate in the new league, which the Eagles hope will lead to Pennsylvania sanctioning the sport.

Bensalem police investigating massive brawl at Golden Corral

A giant brawl was caught on video at the Golden Corral Buffet & Grill in Bensalem, Bucks County on Friday. Police believe more than 40 people were involved in the fight, which drove patrons to flee the restaurant as people threw chairs and tables in the dining room.

Missing N.J. man found dead after three-day search, police say

Jonathan Morris, 23, was found dead Monday night after he went missing from his Bridgeton, New Jersey home on Jan. 28. Morris was last seen in a Snapchat post and had been out driving his mother's BMW after finishing work on Thursday night. A bloody jacket was later found in neighboring Hopewell Township and the car was located abandoned and running in a nearby area on Water Street. An investigation remains ongoing.

Super Walgreens flagship store to close in Center City in February

Walgreens will close its flagship store in Philadelphia at the end of February. The drugstore at the corner of Broad and Chestnut streets opened in 2013, replacing a former Borders bookstore. The three-level spaces included a cafe and a wider selection of food and retail products than other Walgreens locations.

'Horrified' airline vows to stop shipping lab monkeys, like those involved in Pennsylvania truck crash

Kenya Airways will soon stop transporting wild animals, include lab monkeys for experimental research, after a truck accident in Pennsylvania last week resulted in a safety hazard during the shipment of 100 long-tailed macaques. Several of the monkeys escaped near Danville and we later euthanized before the rest were taken to a quarantine site. The monkeys are commonly used for infectious disease research and demand for them has spiked during the coronavirus pandemic to aid vaccine development.

South Philly traffic roundabout planned to improve road safety at busy intersection

Philadelphia has plans to build a new traffic roundabout at the busy South Philly intersection of 20th Street, Penrose, Moyamensing and Packer Avenues. Construction on the project is expected to begin as soon as the summer of 2022 and could take a few years to complete. Roundabouts are intended to improve road safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Temple University has tapped former Philadelphia police commissioner Charles Ramsey to conduct an audit of its campus safety services. Violent crime and homicides fell during the eight years Ramsey led the Philadelphia Police Department, but violence since has soared, impacting the safety of Temple's community in North Philly.
