Uber to offer discounts to SEPTA riders headed to and from participating Regional Rail stations

Public transit authority will use rideshare company's ridership data to study parking availability

Uber and SEPTA will join forces this summer to study and provide a solution for reported parking problems at certain Regional Rail station parking lots.

According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, several of SEPTA’s Regional Rail stations parking lots fill up quickly, “as early as 7:30 a.m.,” which presumably persuades potential users from taking the transportation service.

Through the partnership, which will run from Memorial Day through Labor Day, people who use Uber to go to and from the 11 participating Regional Rail stations will get a discount of 40 percent, but not to exceed $10.

Through the partnership, SEPTA – which reportedly is not paying anything for the partnership – will then get exclusive information from Uber on riders using the service to get to and from the rail stations to be used in a parking study.

According to Philly.com, the 11 stations included in the partnership are Glenside, Jenkintown-Wyncote, Elkins Park, Melrose Park, Warminster, Doylestown, Lansdale, Woodbourne, Swarthmore, Wayne and Exton.
