3 Philly suburban school districts rank in Top 10 nationally

Three Philadelphia suburban school districts are among the Top 10 districts in the nation, according to rankings compiled by Niche.com for its 2017 Best Schools List.

Tredyffrin/Easttown School District in Chester County was ranked the top school district in the nation for the second consecutive year by the website, which analyzes schools' data and parent and student reviews to develop national and state rankings.

Two others in the suburbs, the Radnor Township and Lower Merion districts, ranked third and eighth nationally, respectively.

Two of Tredyffrin-Easttown's elementary schools, Hillside in Berwyn and Beaumont in Devon, were ranked the first and second best in the country, respectively. Two others, New Eagle Elementary and Valley Forge Elementary, both in Wayne, ranked 22nd and 24th, respectively. Two of its middle schools – Valley Forge in Wayne and Tredyffrin-Easttown in Berwyn – ranked 10th and 12th in the national rankings, respectively. Its high school ranked 12th in the United States.

"We have great kids who continue to shine and who are supported by dedicated staff and a caring, engaged community,” Dr. Richard Gusick, T/E superintendent of schools, said in a statement.

In the Radnor district, Radnor Middle School in Wayne was ranked 14th in the nation. Ithan Elementary in Bryn Mawr ranked 20th nationally, while Radnor Senior High School ranked 28th.

In the Lower Merion district, Merion Elementary School in Merion Station was ranked fourth in the nation. Two other district elementary schools, Penn Wynne in Wynnewood and Cynwyd in Bala Cynwyd, ranked 17th and 21st in the United States. Its Bala Cynwyd Middle School ranked 20th in the nation.

In New Jersey, the Princeton and Millburn Township school systems ranked sixth and 24th in the nation, respectively.

Four middle schools placed in the top 25 nationally: Thomas R. Grover Middle School, West Windsor, fifth; J. Witherspoon Middle School, Princeton, 13th; Community Middle School, Plainsboro, 16th; and Millburn Middle School, Millburn, 17th.

Four elementary schools placed in the top 25 nationally, as well: Littlebrook Elementary School, Princeton, third; Johnson Park Elementary School, Princeton, eighth; Riverside Elementary School, Princeton, 14th; and South Mountain School, Millburn, 23rd.

All of the schools mentioned above earned A+ grades from Niche.com based on several criteria, including academics, teachers and culture and diversity.
