'Fart-in' protest planned at moment Clinton accepts party nomination

Supporters have been sending protesters beans from all over the country

Beans, beans they're good for your heart – and for making a political point, apparently.

According to NBC News, a group of anti-Hillary Clinton protesters are planning a coordinated flatulent assault both inside the Wells Fargo Center and on the street (with the cooperation of their digestive systems, anyway) at the very moment the Democratic presidential candidate is expected to accept the party's nomination during the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia next week.

“If this is the only way that we can really begin to talk about how our political system in this country stinks — with beans — then I say so be it," Cheri Honkala told NBC News.

There are even Democratic delegates who are Bernie Sanders supporters expected to participate while on the convention floor.

The lead organizer of the "Fart-In," Cheri Honkala, (who also heads the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign, which will protest for economic justice at Philadelphia's City Hall on July 25, the convention's opening day) told NBC News that her group has already started getting donations of canned beans from around the country – as a token of support.

She added that protesters plan to eat the beans at “a shantytown dubbed 'Clintonville' in Kensington" before getting in their positions.

It’s a funny concept, she admits, but the intent is serious.

“If this is the only way that we can really begin to talk about how our political system in this country stinks — with beans — then I say so be it," Honkala told NBC News.
