Police: Homeowner shoots, kills armed robber in Northeast Philly

A man was shot and killed while allegedly attempting to rob a home in Northeast Philadelphia late Monday night, NBC10 reports.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. at a home on the 6100 block of Reach St. in Lawncrest.

Police say the armed 35-year-old male suspect approached the home and announced a robbery. The homeowner then pulled out a gun and fired at the suspect, striking him in the neck and chest, police say.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they discovered drugs, hundreds of dollars and apparent drug-packaging material inside the home upon investigation.

"It’s a very good possibility that this home-invasion robbery, the motive was to steal this narcotics-related money," Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10.

The incident remains under investigation.
